Active learning is an educational approach where students participate in the learning material through various activities, discussions, problem solving and reflection instead of passively receiving information. It emphasizes student- centered learning and promotes deeper understanding, critical thinking, and retention of knowledge.
Here are 11 active learning techniques in detail-
1. Think-Pair-Share (TPS):- In this technique, students first think individually about a question, problem or concept presented by the teacher.
- Then they pair up with classmates to discuss their questions. thoughts, compare ideas and, if possible, come up with solutions or answers together.
-Finally, pairs share their conclusions or solutions with the rest of the class.- TPS encourages active participation, collaboration and joint learning.
2 . Peer Teaching:- Students take turns teaching each other certain topics or concepts.- This can include presenting mini-lessons, leading discussions, or explaining complex ideas in their own words.
-Peer teaching strengthens both the student-teacher and their understanding of classmates and at the same time develops communication and leadership skills.
3. Problem-Based Learning (PBL):- PBL introduces students to real problems or case studies related to course material.
- Students work in small groups to analyze a problem, research and propose solutions. . and present their findings.
- PBL promotes critical thinking, collaboration and application of knowledge in practical situations.
4. Flipped Classroom:- In a flipped classroom model, students review course material (such as lectures or lectures outside of class).
- The lesson is then used for interactive activities, discussions and practical exercises.
-This approach allows for more personalized learning and facilitates deeper engagement with the material during face-to-face sessions.
5. Interactive Lectures:- Incorporating interactive elements into traditional lectures can improve student engagement and participation.
-Technologies such as polls, quizzes, discussions, presentations and group activities can break up the lecture format and encourage active participation of students.
6. Roleplays and simulations:- In roleplays and simulations, students take on specific roles or participate in scenarios to explore concepts or problems from multiple perspectives.

7. Jigsaw Technique:- The Jigsaw Technique divides students into small groups where each group is given different knowledge or topics.

11. Group discussions and debates:- Group discussions and debates encourage active participation and critical thinking as students dialogue, share positions and defend their positions.
